Whom is Northrise affiliated with?

NU is in partnership with Dordt College and California Polytechnic State University (CalPoly) San Luis Obispo. Both universities are located in the United States.

What programs are currently being offered?

Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Business Finance (BBF), Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT), Bachelor of Project Management (BPM), Bachelor of Theology (BTH) and Master of Business Administration (MBA). Also on offer are two Online/Distance programs - a professional Diploma in Human Resource Management (DipHRM) and a certificate in Theology (Cert.TH).

How many years does it take to complete the bachelor programs?

Students who enroll in a program and pass all the courses as laid out in the course schedule will complete all course work for undergraduate (bachelor) programs in four years full time (morning) and four years and twelve weeks (evening). The last twelve weeks for the evening programs are spent working on a research project that each student is required to submit. For course details, please check the current student handbook

Can I apply for exemptions based on studies completed from another accredited academic institution?

After being accepted in any of NU's programs, a student may apply to be considered for exemption based on prior learning at other recognized and accredited higher learning institutions.  More...

When was NU founded?

The history of Northrise University starts in January 2004 when NU opened its doors to the first students. We started with 50 students studying diplomas in Theology and Information Technology.

What is the minimum GPA for the award of a bachelor degree?

Northrise University has instituted an academic progression policy to guide the development of the student through their study. Students who attain a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.00 will be permitted to proceed onto any Social Science degree (as defined by the University) and a GPA of 2.50 onto any Natural Science degree (as specified by the University).
For example, all Theology and Business degrees (except the Bachelor in Finance and Accounting, which requires a minimum GPA of 2.50) require a minimum GPA of 2.00 to progress into the third year of study whereas all programs under the Centre for ICT studies will require a minimum GPA of 2.50 . In the event that a student fails to obtain a GPA of 2.50, they will be provided the option of studying for any other degree program provided that they have a minimum GPA score of 2.00.  All postgraduate students must graduate with a minimum GPA of 2.50.

What are the requirements for payment of tuition fees?

Students must pay for any courses they intend to take at registration. Without execption, tuition fees must be paid in full before a student can be allowed to attend classes.  More...

When does the Academic Year begin at NU?

The Academic Year begins in January and ends in December. The year is divided into three terms which run from January to April, May to August and September to December. Each term consists of 12 weeks, except for Term 2, which has 13 weeks to accomodate what we call the Service Learning Week where students go out to serve in the community.

How many students are at NU?

As of Academic Year 2010, we have about 230 students on register.

How long does it take to complete the MBA program?

Students studying the MBA program who pass all courses as laid out in the MBA course schedule will take a year and a half to complete the program.  If they wish to study for a Major or concentration, the program will take 2 years.

How many courses can a full time student take per term?

All full time students take a maximum of four courses per term. This is considered to be a full load. In exceptional circumstances, a student may be allowed to take at most five courses per term.

How many students has NU graduated?

Since its inception in 2004, Northrise University has graduated about 100 students. The majority of our graduates have been from the Northrise Business School. Most of these students have found jobs in the mining, financial services, telecommunications and IT sectors. Most of the students from the Faculty of Theology are pastors or are involved in one form of ministry of another.

Does NU offer boarding facilities?

Accommodation is available for DAY students. It is offered on a first-come first-served basis.

When are applications for enrolment due?

Prosepective students can submit their applications at any time in person at our reception or online at http://www.northriseuniversity.com/apply/   For evening students (the Center for Professional Studies (CPS), applications are accepted every six weeks.  Check the schedule for when courses commence.

What does the motto "Being Excellent at What is Good" mean?

At NU, we strive for excellence in all aspects of our being - academics, spirituality, and integration of our knowledge and skills. We hope that all our graduates will exhibit excellence wherever they find themselves serving. Our motto is based on Romans 16:19.
